There's not much to say about this one.
--Does anyone else remember the self confident Rachel that didn't need validation? Is it too much to hope that she actually returns to that instead of this wilted version that needs Finn to shore her up?
--Sue joining the club was boring for me, but I am interested to see her coaching another team. eta: you know I forgot who Aural Intensity were, so I looked them up.
--Lauren is okay. I'm not interested in her having any more solos though. Puck continues to be a sex shark.
--Sam and Quinn are over (for now?) I still don't care. I want Quinn to practice some independence and leave Sam to his social climbing.
--Brittany looked good this episode: she was biting and funny and not so childlike.
--The Bieber bits were funny but that could never happen again and I'd be fine with it.
--The Children Hospital scene felt like a play for emotions that personally failed to stir within me.
Preview for next week: oh dear the kissing thing between Blaine and Rachel. Kurt's face. I expect some drama next week. I'm excited for anything after tonight's episode.

Date: 2011-02-16 04:15 am (UTC)I liked seeing a natural smile on Sue's face. Weird, but true.
My favorite part was that back a while ago, when MCR's new CD came out, I said that "Sing" was going to be THE anthem of 2011. I repeated this when I listened to them sing it live in NYC just after the new year rang in, to start my year off right. When Will said the theme was anthems, I just started grinning and cheering (my poor husband). Was it my favorite cover? Not necessarily and yet, I'm so absolutely gleeful that they covered MCR and that they covered THAT SONG because I have such love for it. And they did it well.
Also, when Santana told Sam to stop being a dork, I wanted to cry. I love dorky Sam. That's the character I saw in the very beginning and the one I want desperately to come back. I want Sam to also have the strength to just be HIMSELF. Him and Quinn. Separately. And Rachel. Yes please.
I did like that Sue couldn't come between the divas in the end, though. :) Happy there.

Date: 2011-02-16 04:29 am (UTC)I'm really at the point where it seems the only thing left for them to do with Kurt is to have him return so I'm bracing for some more episodes that don't have him much involved. Do you think Kurt will be back at McKinley for Regionals or will he still be with the Warblers? Do you think he'll get a solo at some point?
Dork!Sam has to make a return. I'm sure of it. That's who Sam is deep down and I do feel he'll eventually settle into himself more.
The continued bond between Rachel and Mercedes was a positive for me. I hope they continue to let the friendships stay and allow the characters to face different complications.

Date: 2011-02-16 02:27 pm (UTC)I want Kurt back at McKinley as well. We are not getting enough of him. But with Blaine in the third season, does that mean we'll be still seeing a lot of the Warblers, even without Kurt there, or might Blaine transfer as well?
My husband and I talked about Kurt long ago and we expect the decision to be made in the episode for Regionals, or the episode right before, where Kurt will need to choose between the two for some reason or another. I hope he has a solo.
Dork!Sam is adorable. He's really in the space where a lot of folks were last season, still trying to figure out that they can be themselves because they have support. Which continues to be one of the themes that I do like in the show, which is that Glee becomes family and that things can be faced when you have friends to lean on. It's what makes the Rachel/Mercedes/Kurt trio so wonderful. People just need to feel comfortable relying on that and accepting their own differences.
There is someone who will love Dork!Sam for BEING a dork. Someone who will want him to speak Navi to them. :) I'm not sure we've met her yet.
In some ways, Sam's worship of Quinn reminds me of Kurt's worship of Finn. He's willing to ignore the faults, and put her on the pedestal... now that he's been pulled away from that, I hope he can wise up to the mess Santana's creating and get himself on his own. I think he needs that independence as much as the girls do.
If we make it through the whole season without getting his backstory I am going to be soooo frustrated.

Date: 2011-02-16 05:06 pm (UTC)More than anything I want Kurt to have the validation of performing in front of an audience, all of his solos I remember have been in front of Glee club and that's good but it's still isn't a public performance. I don't expect him to have the showstopper but a solo within a medley would be awesome at Regionals.
Sam is so in that space of trying to figure out that being himself is okay and it's the best thing for him. Some of the shots of his face after Santana told him to stop being a dork, and how he ended things with Quinn were sad but I do think he'll come out stronger for it.
Now that you've mentioned the parallels between the two relationships, I can see them; and the unfortunate thing is that I don't know if he sees that this mess Santana is creating is also about getting at Quinn, or to some extent I think Sam has suspicions about it but is ignoring it.

Date: 2011-02-17 02:08 pm (UTC)Oh man, yeah, I would love to see that. He keeps getting shot down, too... I mean, he was crushed when he didn't get that solo with the Warblers. He needs to see how awesome he is.
I think Sam ignores a lot of things because he wants to be something he's not. I think he's pretty self aware that in order to be popular he might have to become something he doesn't want to be. But he's so damned determined to be that in this new school that he's just bulling ahead and praying it comes out okay. I think a lot of it all goes back to us needing to know where he's coming from in backstory, because that'll tell us where he's going. Hopefully. And I hope he figures himself out before a lot of people get hurt (including himself).

Date: 2011-02-17 07:50 pm (UTC)Agree so much with your thoughts on Sam. In some ways I don't see the possibility of Santana hurting him as much as Quinn did, possibly because he seems aware of what her intentions are and he seems more guarded this time. I don't know.

Date: 2011-02-18 01:18 am (UTC)I hope she can't hurt him as much. I hate to see him developing that exterior. And I just keep circling back that I want to know more about him so I stop writing my own random backstories for him. Because I can come up with a few zillion and make them all fit canon. :p

Date: 2011-02-18 01:31 am (UTC)I really don't think Santana can hurt Sam that much. Santana isn't really into faking and part of her pitch was sticking it to Finn, so Sam getting extremely attached would surprise me. I think he's going to try because that just seems like the kind of person he is but I don't see him pulling out a ring for Santana.

Date: 2011-02-18 03:14 pm (UTC)How many episodes are left in this season, anyway? I should go look that up...
Right now, though? Can't stop listening to the Glee version of Sing. I've decided I could just alternate between that and the original MCR version all day and probably be happy.
