Compared to last season's Regional episode this felt like a weak imitation: using some of the same gimmicks with the judges, a Rachel/Finn moment right before; but I think the fact that last season's was the end of a Journey (give me this pun) and this one feels like a journey to another destination (Nationals).
MUSIC-
I'm experiencing diminishing returns with The Warblers so I didn't love any of their performances and I feel like Candles was not a good song for Blaine and Kurt to sing together.
Original Songs-- Rachel's ode to being an only child, Santana's song to Sam's lips, and Mercedes' 'Hell to the No' were funny but obviously not fit for Regionals or for anything besides a joke. The two Regionals' numbers were good but also standard. I preferred the second to the first.
Story lines/etc-
-I was dreading the Quinn-Rachel moment but I felt for both of them in that scene. Quinn seems so mentally locked into a certain pattern and when she allows herself to imagine beyond that, she's going to be amazing. Rachel is trying to break out of the mold for now, and I was glad when she got a gold star she didn't have to give herself.
-Nice to see Will win of Sue, though she's not done obviously.
-The judges were okay. Kathy Griffin was mostly herself doing an imitation and I kind of want the nun to come back. Josh Groban for Nationals though. Let's start a campaign.
-Santana was naturally hostile this episode. I liked that everything wasn't fixed for her and Brittany.
-Kurt and Blaine kissed. Nice to see Kurt get a kiss he's actually into. I'd be more into Blaine if he did more of this instead of give poor advice and attempt to mentor. I do wonder if Kurt is more the Jesse in this situation without the treachery.
